Deliver us, Father, if only for today, from our preoccupation with self. Help us to envision You as King, the very essence of life—God over all; God who forgives all messes, who understands all frustrations, who calms all fears; King who reigns over our lives supremely.
Our dear Father, we are grateful for the rest that is found in Christ. Our souls were like waves crashing against a shoreline, and our lives were in tumult and disarray, confusion and chaos. And then You rescued us. You brought us forgiveness and relief, and You introduced us to a wonderful four-letter word that has become for us a lifeline for survival: rest.
Our Father, You instruct us and teach us in the way we should go. Thank You for that. You shine a bright light on our path from Your Word. Thank You for the relief that comes with being forgiven and the peace of mind that accompanies a clean heart.
It's a pretty awesome thing, Lord, to be in Your service. It's a lot easier to begin and run a company, even a big corporation, than it is to serve the body of Christ. As humans, we see the outward appearance, but You look at the heart. We reward achievements that everybody notices, but You reward those things that nobody knows about.
How precious is Your Word to us, our Father. The older we get, the more we realize its value and treasure its truths. We thank You for its precepts, clearly delineated and purposefully defined to give us direction.
We need help, Lord, to overcome the bad habits of the past, to resist wanting to be liked rather than doing what's right, to be popular instead of being pure. And, Lord, in the process, may we continue to be easy to live with, winsome—like Christ—who was the most attractive individual who ever cast a shadow on earth.
We pray that Your mighty presence would take the place of the stress, the demands, the struggles, the mess we've created. We ask that You would give us Your shalom—Your peace—like we've never known it before.
We pray for those who've run away from You. We request that You would win them back through Your compassion and mercy. We ask that they would sense the sympathetic faithfulness of God and that that alone would draw them like a magnet to You.
May we, through Your Spirit's power, become more like our gentle Saviour, who promised, "My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Like our Master and Lord, may our encounters with others be easy and bring light. Meet our needs in a very special way, especially our need for a gentle and quiet spirit.
Our Father, we acknowledge that we need You, and our need is not partial; it's total. It's not occasional; it's always—today especially. We pray for those who wrestle with the very real problem of loneliness. It's not dated; it surfaces regularly in every generation.
