As we age we become more cautious and risk getting stuck in a rut. Becoming content with a tedious lifestyle of fear bordering on boredom isn’t living, it’s existing. Where in the Scriptures do you find “Don’t exert yourself?”
Sometimes we’re tempted to drop anchor and live a safe life in a secure harbour. But the Christian life isn’t about being safe or secure—it’s abut being salt and light in a dark world.
The Nazis stripped Victor Frankl’s life down to almost nothing. Once a renowned psychiatrist, Frankl was reduced to being a slave labourer at the notorious death camp Auschwitz. He could have seethed with hate and self-pity but, instead, Frankl realized that the Nazis could never steal, shape, or dictate his attitude.
Jesus asks for nothing less than your whole heart. Being committed to Him means saying no to your own desires, yes to what He wants, and nothing in between.
Who had more of God than the Israelites in Moses’ day? But they were ungrateful, hardened, and faithless. Their Great Deliverer, in their eyes, had become a cruel taskmaster.
Our souls will find no peace until we remember our Creator. Now is the time to remember Him in all our thoughts and actions.
Often we don’t meet needs because we’re too busy living our own lives. But by not helping, we miss out on God’s blessings. It’s through providing for others our lives are enriched.
From the biblical text it didn't seem like Isaiah involved himself in changing the moral or spiritual landscape of his country—at least, not until he faced a heartbreaking loss and then had a life-changing encounter with God.
The thing that makes for greatness is determination, persisting in the same direction over the long haul. Success is the result of a long, painful, arduous, sometimes sacrificial process. In our world of instant everything these are not popular traits, but they lead to excellence.
At any age, the greatest thing you can be is yourself. The godliest lifestyle comes out of authentic people who love Christ. That’s a beauty beyond description.
