Read Hebrews 4:12–13
I recall learning as a boy a little Sunday school song that went something like….
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see,
Oh be careful little eyes what you see!
For the Father up above is looking down in love,
Oh, be careful little eyes what you see!
After all these years, that simple ditty has stayed with me. And so has its message. Be careful where you go and be careful what you look at, because God cares too. He is pleased when your whole life remains pure before Him.
Though we may deceive ourselves by acting as if no one really knows or cares about what’s going on in our lives, God’s Word makes clear that nothing could be further from the truth:
The word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. (Hebrews 4:12–13)
Our all-knowing God is aware of all the details of our lives. When we bring our thoughts and motives, affections and priorities under the lens of Scripture, God can see deeper than we can possibly imagine. What’s more, He’s able to scope out areas of our lives hidden from even our own awareness. And though that may seem a bit frightful from our limited understanding, it’s a gift of grace from above. He cares so deeply, He won’t allow something dark and dishonouring to Him to remain hidden and fester and grow in our hearts. How gracious is that?
Aren’t you glad He cares that much about you? Can you even imagine where we’d be if He stopped caring about us a few months ago? How about a few weeks ago?
