Read Psalm 90:12–17
What are you inviting into your home? What’s meaningful among your family...your children...your grandchildren? Are you establishing healthy biblical boundaries of safety, purity, godliness, and propriety around your family? Or have you allowed the subtle forces of disrespect, impatience, rivalry, prejudice, and the sewage of immorality to seep into their lives through the portals of the Internet, Netflix, cable television, and social media? Be raw-honest, here. What have you come to tolerate under the guise of not being a prude or for fear of alienating your children and their friends? If so, may I make a bold suggestion? It’s time to invite the Lord’s glory to return. Let me say that again: it’s time to invite the Lord’s glory to return to your home.
Now then, read this sobering prayer from a serious prophet:
Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. O LORD, come back to us! How long will you delay? Take pity on your servants! Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives. Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory. And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful! (Psalm 90:12–17)
Are you a dad...a mom? Still have kids at home? Imagine what would be your experience if that were your prayer. Imagine how different your home would be if you and all of the people living under your roof—your spouse, your children—tapped into God’s glory.
