Dear friend,
We are on a mission!
When I write about the mission of Insight for Living Canada, I often say something like, “the mission of Insight for Living Canada is to bring the truth of God’s Word to life.” Or, “our mission is to explain the Bible in a clear, accurate, and practical way.”
I might even reference Vision 195 which says, “Insight for Living Ministries is committed to excellence in following Jesus’ Great Commission to ‘go and make disciples of all the nations’ with the message of God's majesty, the authenticity of His Word, the power of the cross, and His amazing grace in all 195 countries of the world.”
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the question, “whose mission is this anyway?” I’ve been considering mission in its wider context, looking at it from the 30,000-foot level of God’s plan of salvation unfolded in history.
Ever since humanity fell into sin, God has been on a mission to rescue, redeem, and restore lost sinners and to defeat Satan. The Old Testament documents how God set the stage for all this to take place and prophesied the appearance of His Champion.
Then Jesus, the Champion, came to earth and won our salvation through His righteous life, sacrificial death on the cross, and defeat of Satan. When He completed His earthly mission, He returned to heaven.
But as Jesus was wrapping up His earthly work He said to His followers, “peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you,” (John 20:21 emphasis added).
Here’s my point: As part of carrying out His own mission the Father sent Jesus. And in turn, in order for Jesus to fulfil His mission, He sends us. In other words, the mission we ultimately have is to fulfil the Father’s mission. God’s mission has become our mission—a co-mission if you will, from, with, and for the Lord.
The way we accomplish this at Insight for Living Canada is by sharing Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s biblical teaching over the air waves, in print, and online. We do that because we believe Isaiah 55:11, “...so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it” (NIV).
We also believe Romans 10:17, “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ” (NLT). Unless people hear and believe God’s Word they cannot be saved.
I believe the reason you participate financially with Insight for Living Canada is because you believe those verses and want to see God’s mission fulfilled. You know that getting God’s Word out is essential to this.
This month, I invite you again to participate in the mission God is accomplishing by sending out His Word through Pastor Chuck and Insight for Living Canada.
As you graciously give financial support, and we diligently broadcast God’s Word, He sovereignly fulfils His mission of rescuing, redeeming, and restoring lost sinners and defeating Satan.
Lord willing, we will soon be able to say, “Mission accomplished!”
Grateful for your participation,
Steve Johnson
Executive Director
