Dear friend,
Do you have a good memory?
Many years ago, I had a friend who regularly told me he had a memory like Teflon—nothing sticks! He also said he had a great memory, but it was just short, and that he had a mind like a steel trap, only his was rusty. At times I can relate to those descriptions because from time to time rather than being a good rememberer, I’m a good forgetter!
What I sometimes experience, and maybe you do too, is that amid life’s daily grind, I get too focused on the material and earthly things around me. And when that happens, it’s easy to forget the spiritual truths about the Lord and His salvation. I too easily forget who I am in Christ, what He has done, and what He is doing for me.
I use the word “forget” because there are times when I am keenly aware of these spiritual truths. But then life happens and I get distracted and forgetful. Does that happen to you too?
Is there a way to solve this problem of forgetting? Thankfully yes!
In 2 Peter 3:1–2, the Apostle Peter wrote, “This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.”
Said another way, the answer to the problem of forgetting important spiritual truths is to be continually reminded of what God’s Word says.
It’s true that Insight for Living Canada is here to teach people the truth of God’s Word. Pastor Chuck Swindoll does a masterful job of opening the Word and exposing us to teaching that may be new to many of us. Your support helps spread this teaching of God’s Word across the country.
But it is also true that we are here to “stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory” about what you have been taught and became convinced of sometime before. How many times have you been listening to Pastor Chuck or reading one of his books and you are struck with gratitude for being reminded of an important spiritual truth?
We all need to be reminded, sometimes many times over, of the rich, life-changing truths found in God’s Word. And that is another reason your financial partnership is so valuable.
By supporting Insight for Living Canada, you are supporting the means by which you are reminded of spiritual truths and you are doing good for others who are of the household of faith. You are making an investment in others’ lives, an investment that will reap eternal dividends because what you do now counts forever.
You won’t always hear some new spiritual truth or principle when you tune in to Insight for Living or read one of Pastor Chuck’s books. This is especially true if you have walked with the Lord for many years. But each time you do, you and others like you will be reminded of something worth remembering.
I hope you will remember to send a gracious gift this month to us to help share God’s Word with others and remind believers of the great things God has done for them.
Working alongside you,
Steve Johnson
