Ministry Letter November 2020

Dear friends,

Do you remember things called object lessons?

When I was a boy, one of the things I enjoyed and that often happened in Sunday school and church was object lessons. Some every-day item would be brought and the physical thing would be used to point to a spiritual reality. It was a simple, tangible way to present spiritual truth.

When Jesus did miracles they were intended as object lessons too. That’s what happened at the wedding in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1–11). To illustrate the spiritual reality of the kingdom of God, which would bring about the miracle of transforming sinners into saints, Jesus miraculously transformed water into wine.

Another good object lesson example is the amazing story of the paralytic who was let down through the roof by his friends in Mark 2:1–12. Jesus said,

“‘So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” And the man jumped up, grabbed his mat, and walked out through the stunned onlookers. They were all amazed and praised God, exclaiming, “We’ve never seen anything like this before!” (Mark 2:10–12)

The spiritual reality of Jesus’ authority to forgive sins was illustrated by physical healing.

This is the pattern we see in Scripture: God’s Word is sent out, His power is displayed, and we witness the miracle of transformed lives. This is what the Lord promised in Isaiah 55:11, “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

When Insight for Living Canada airs and shares the message that Jesus was sent as the living Word of God to transform sinners into saints, God’s power through the Holy Spirit accompanies it and we witness the miracle of changed lives.  And this doesn’t just happen once, it happens abundantly and daily!

I can’t think of anything more exciting and significant than being a part of this! Can you?

And here is another beautiful thing—it’s not up to us to do the work of changing lives, that’s God’s job. Ours is simply to be faithful to get the Word out. God accomplishes the miracle of changed lives through Scripture when we do our part.

Will you join us in seeing the miracle of lives changed by sending your financial support this month?

I don’t think I need to convince you that we live in a time when people are seeking change. I’m only reminding you of something you already know and have experienced—the life-changing power of God’s Word. That’s why I’m asking you to stand with us in this great mission of airing and sharing the only thing that can bring about true and lasting change, the truth of God’s Word.

As we approach the Christmas season and all that goes with it let’s remember that Jesus’ birth was the most important object lesson of all.

Jesus, God’s Word, was sent to us through a miraculous display of power showing the spiritual truth of God’s love for a lost world and His desire to see lives transformed.

Help us continue fulfilling that mission.

Because of Him,

Steve Johnson
