There is a kind of spirituality and religion today that includes what I call the everyman’s Jesus. He’s a one-size-fits-all Jesus made in man’s image suited to individual preferences. This is not the Jesus of the Bible.

The Apostle Paul faced this issue with the Corinthians. He wrote, “You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach…” (2 Corinthians 11:4a). They were like some today who have gone to church their whole lives and who think they are doing what Jesus wants but don’t know the truth about who He is or what following Him truly means.

According to Jesus Himself, He is more than a prophet, teacher, spiritual master, or ideal man. He is, in fact, Lord (Matthew 12:8). By virtue of His death and resurrection He is Lord of all.  “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah”(Acts 2:36). That means He is the One who is in control and whose will is supreme and to be obeyed by all. 

Calling Jesus “Lord” is a confession of belief that He is God. It is a statement of loyalty to Him, a claim to be His disciple, and the path to peace and freedom. The simple, yet profound truth is the Jesus of the Bible is Lord of all or He is not Lord at all.

It is this truth that we at Insight for Living Canada proclaim and explain to Canadians. If Jesus Christ is Lord of all then there is nothing more important that proclaiming His Word and explaining to people how to obey Him in every area of their lives.
