Here in Canada you may have heard about the battle between a church denomination and one of its pastors. The denomination wants to kick this minister out because she is an atheist, doesn’t believe Jesus was a real person, and denies the Bible is the Word of God. She is defended by many in the church who believe dismissing her is extreme and shows the church has lost its way.

On one hand I am flabbergasted that a church established for the worship of God and the propagation of the Good News of Jesus Christ could get to the place of denying the very existence of that God, the reality of Jesus, and the inspiration of the Book from which it gets its message!

On the other hand I know for many in our society black is now white, wrong is now right, and the name Jesus simply identifies a moral teacher or a swear word.

My heart goes out to the people of that church and all other Canadians who aren’t hearing the truth about Jesus and the message of salvation. Two thousand years ago Peter declared, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12 NIV). That is still true in our country today.

The name Jesus means “the Lord saves.” The Apostle Paul wrote, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” (Romans 10:14).

Whenever you tune in to listen to Chuck Swindoll preach on Insight for Living you will hear the name Jesus. A lot. You will hear He is God’s Son who saves us from our sin. You will hear the Bible preached as the Word of God. You can count on it and its truth every Canadian needs to hear.

I’m writing to you because I believe you know Jesus Christ is the Son of God who saves us from our sin and the Bible is God’s Word. You believe teaching this is important.

In a day when even churches deny Christ we need to be faithful and diligent to proclaim Him. Just as you count on Insight for Living Canada to faithfully proclaim the truth, we count on you to support us financially and with your prayers.
