“Never give up, never give in.” This could have been the motto of Paul’s life. A man of grace and grit, Paul didn’t know the meaning of quitting. Despite constant hardship, physical abuse, emotional anguish, verbal assaults, false accusations, unrelenting pressure, frequent misunderstandings, multiple jailings, and heartbreaking abandonment, Paul pressed on, never holding back. This was how he put it in Philippians 3:14: “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Quit simply wasn’t in the man’s vocabulary. We ought to erase it from ours as well. And we can if we’ll hear and heed Paul’s last words to his friend, Timothy.
